About Us...
We organise six or seven chamber concerts a year throughout the winter months.
The artists are all of a high international standard and we pride ourselves on being
able to compare with similar concerts in major concert halls Edinburgh, Glasgow and
Newcastle.
Many performers are on major tours and come from countries like Czechoslovakia,
Russia, Germany and Holland. Some, like the Doric, Carducci and, this year, the
Idomeneo quartet from Germany, are among the very finest of the younger generation
of artists, winning top awards and international competitions and giving concerts
worldwide.
Detailed programme notes can be purchased, along with tea and coffee in the
interval.
We have an annual AGM immediately before the final concert where views and
comments can be expressed. All ticket purchasers are invited to attend.
Engaging with Young People.
Enterprise Music Scotland to whom we are grateful for our main source of funding,
provide workshops in schools by some of the artists performing in our concerts.
Following a number of very successful workshops with the Navarra and Doric
Quartets and with the Marais Ensemble in Broomlands and Edenside Primary schools,
we are keen to extend the programme and to encourage younger audiences to attend
or at least gain some experience of the music in our concerts.
To this end we are always investigating other ways of providing funding.
In addition we are offering a free ticket to under 14s, with an accompanying adult
at half price for £6, which would allow them to leave at half time if they felt that a full
concert was too long.
