Seonaid Aitken is an award winning Scottish violinist, vocalist, composer and arranger. In addition to playing in the orchestra of Scottish Opera for around 20 years she has a parallel life in the jazz world and has presented numerous jazz programmes on BBC Radio Scotland. Winner of 'Best vocalist' at the 2017 and 2018 Scottish Jazz Awards, she specialises in Gypsy Jazz and is a regular session musicians across the genres. With her hand-picked ensemble of string quintet plus saxophone/flute she is presenting a programme of two halves.

In the first half we hear 'Chasing Sakura' a suite influenced by her stay in Japan, a serious accident and the long recovery process. Originally commissioned in 2021 by Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival it employs the idioms of jazz, classical and folk to follow the lifespan of the cherry blossom and the theme of a fleeting but beautiful life, lived to the full.

In the second half she presents a selection from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, Scottish melodies and popular classics, all arranged by her.
